Jordan became independent in 1946 as the Kingdom of Transjordan. Jordan's Independence Day dates back to May 25, 1946, the day the country officially became independent from Britain. Since then, May 25th has become a national holiday to celebrate independence.
The Emirate of Transjordan, which had been a British mandate since 1921, became independent as the Kingdom of Transjordan in 1946, and was externally renamed the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in 1950.
