Ronda is a city located in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain, situated in the northwest of the province of Málaga. The city is the center of the judicial district of the same name and serves as the capital of the region of La Serranía de Ronda.
The municipal territory extends over a plateau known as the Ronda lowlands, which is surrounded by mountain ranges. The total area is $397.62 \text{ square kilometers}$, with a population density of approximately $86.18 \text{ inhabitants per square kilometer}$.
Ronda originated from the ancient Roman settlement of Arunda, but was further developed by the Visigoths and later established its status as a regional center and city under Islamic influence. Its historical significance stemmed from its strategic location, which allowed for the city's defense and control over routes to the Andalusian lowlands, as well as its fertile land suitable for agriculture.
The city is spread across a plateau above a deep gorge carved by the Guadalevín River. The buildings of the historical center face the gorge, offering a beautiful panorama. Ronda has become a notable tourist destination due to its numerous historical buildings, natural environment, and its proximity to the tourist attractions of the Costa del Sol. The bridges that cross this gorge are known as the iconic landscape of Ronda.
